About Me
Marinus van Hall, born in 1992 in the vibrant city of Amsterdam, is a rising artist from a family steeped in artistic tradition. Despite earning a degree in Architecture from the Technical University of Delft, his true passion led him to the world of oil painting in 2015, marking the beginning of his self-taught artistic journey.
With a keen eye for detail and a knack for capturing textures, van Hall delves into the emotional depths of his subjects, searching for hidden expressions within his canvases. Inspired by the techniques of the old masters, he strives to infuse his work with a timeless quality, paying homage to the rich history of art.
Van Hall's portraits are more than mere images; they unfold as stories, inviting viewers to unravel hidden messages and cryptic narratives. His artistic exploration extends beyond his Dutch roots, incorporating a love for foreign cultures, symbolism, and philosophy into his creations.
His latest series of portraits titled "The Flowering Spirit", depicts a mesmerizing fusion of European technique and the enigmatic beauty of a fictive hidden past of Japan. Deeply influenced by his years in Japan, van Hall’s work transcends mere representation, instead acting as a window into a forgotten world—one that seems to exist just beyond the veil of memory.
His portraits depict elegant, ethereal women, rendered with a precision reminiscent of the Dutch Golden Age, yet infused with a mysticism rarely seen in Western portraiture. Each figure carries an unspoken story, a presence both ancient and timeless.
Blending esoteric symbolism, Zen philosophy, and the universal search for the unseen, van Hall’s paintings invite the viewer into a dialogue with the unknown. His art does not provide answers—it raises questions, drawing us into the profound mysteries of consciousness, beauty, and the enduring power of myth.
